Tokyo Daijingu 東京大神宮

Fujimi, Chiyoda, Tokyo · Open in Google Maps

Tokyo Daijingu was founded in the Meiji era so that people in Tokyo could worship the deities of Ise, Amaterasu and Toyouke, without the long journey. It is often called "the Ise of Tokyo".

What to look for

  • The Shinto-style wedding ceremony that most Japanese couples know today was shaped here, which is why the shrine is so strongly associated with marriage.
  • It is one of the most popular shrines in Tokyo for matchmaking prayers, and its charms for finding love are especially well known.
  • It is close to Iidabashi Station.

What people pray for here

Matchmaking and finding a partner, above all, plus family happiness.

Etiquette

It is small and gets crowded with young visitors at weekends. A quiet weekday visit is easier.
